LIAH LAZAROU, a 22 year old student has been pre-selected by the Socialist Alliance as its candidate for the Senate in the coming federal elections.
Liah Lazarou is a creative writing student at the University of South Australia. She is an activist in the socialist youth organisation, Resistance. Last year, Liah attended the G20 protests in Melbourne.
She has also been involved in campaigns for young workers rights and against Howard's Work Choices. Liah is committed to fighting for the righst of women and young people.
“We’re standing in these elections to provide a real alternative to the Lib-Lab politics of the major parties”, Lazarou said. “Now that Rudd has started purging the remaining left-wing unionists from the ALP and has come in behind Howard’s racist indigenous land grab, it’s clearer than every before that progressive people need a real, active voice in politics.
“We’ll be campaigning hard to get rid of Howard but we think progressive people will be wasting their vote if they give their first preference to the ALP.
“We’ll be asking people to take a real stand for unions for indigenous rights for the environment and against war. Vote first for Socialist Alliance, followed by the Greens and then the ALP”.
